Career Fairs: Information for Employers
SDSU Career Fairs give you direct access to one of San Diego’s best talent pools: an educated, driven and highly diverse student body. They are a terrific way to brand your company on campus while supporting the local community and economy. They also provide a forum for students and employers to meet and talk about full-time, part-time, volunteer and internship opportunities.
FAQs and Tips for Success
Standard registration includes registration for two representatives, one 6-foot rectangular table (6'x30"), two chairs, coffee/tea services, breakfast and lunch for two representatives, on-campus parking, and wireless internet access. Attendees will not automatically have access to electrical outlets. Request for access to electrical outlets is required two-weeks before the scheduled career fair. Attendance of an
additional representative may be added for $50 per person. To bring more than three representatives, you must purchase an additional table at the standard registration price. Registration does not automatically confirm attendance. Attendance will be confirmed upon payment of your registration fee. The deadline to register and submit payment is two weeks before the event date. A waitlist is created once we are sold out or the registration deadline has passed.
Yes! We offer a limited amount of booths at a discounted rate for nonprofit organizations at most career fairs.
Please note that SDSU recognizes non-profit organizations as those who hold federal tax-exempt status as a charitable organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or who have obtained a ruling or determination letter recognizing tax exemption or who hold Federal Tax ID number for tax exemption.
Cancellations must be communicated at least two weeks before the event date by emailing the respective career fair coordinator
or [email protected]. If you would like a refund, please note that we require a $50 administrative fee for this process. Cancellations received less than two weeks prior to the event and day-of no-shows are non-refundable. Failure to cancel does not negate financial responsibility for career fair registration.
We provide our industry partners with complimentary concierge services for their packages and materials. One option is to ship your items in advance to our office. Career Services will deliver all shipped items to your table on the morning of the fair. To do so, please print your organization's name somewhere on the package and send it to the following address:
SDSU Career Services
Attn: [career fair name]
5500 Campanile Drive
San Diego, CA 92182-8255
Another option is to drop your packages and materials off at our Drop-Off Zone on the morning of the career fair. The Drop-Off Zone operates from 8:50 a.m. to 10 a.m. At the end of the career fair, you may ask one of our team members to bring your packages back to the loading zone for pickup. Pickups from the loading zone are available from 1:50 to 2:30 p.m. Any packages not picked up by 2:30 p.m. after the fair will be returned to Career Services, and it will be the responsibility of the owner to arrange a pickup. Packages not collected within 60 days will be disposed of.
*These services are a courtesy. Career Services is not liable for damage to any equipment or materials, caused by accident, theft, natural disaster, or otherwise. By using this service you are agreeing to not hold Career Services liable for any damages incurred.
You may park in Parking Structure 3 for free if you submit your license plate number(s) via Offstreet before or on the day of the event. A link to submit your license plate(s) will be sent to all employer registrants prior to the event. This is a requirement of SDSU Parking Services. If this form is not submitted for your vehicle parked on campus, then you will receive a parking citation. If you have any questions about parking you may contact SDSU Parking Services via phone at (619) 594-6671 or email them at [email protected].
- Submit your license plate number via Offstreet before or on the day of the career fair for free parking. A link to Offstreet will be sent prior to the event.
- Let students know that you'll be at the career fair by posting an announcement on LinkedIn or Instagram. Tag or mention SDSU Career Services to be reposted.
- Arrive at least one hour prior to the fair to set up your booth and enjoy breakfast.
- Be approachable, professional, and sincere with attendees. Representatives are one of the most important factors to success at the career fair. They are the face of your company at the event.
- Ask attendees friendly, open-ended and specific questions as they pass by, such as: “What is your major and and what do you like about it?”.
- Bring business cards. For job seekers, a valuable aspect of attending a career fair is receiving a business card with personal information rather than a generic email address such as “[email protected]”.
- Invite representatives who are SDSU alumni, if possible. It’s a great selling point when current students and alumni see a former SDSU student thriving at your company.
- Bring at least two representatives. This will allow you to take turns when taking lunch breaks. You’ll be able to relax knowing your booth is still staffed.
- Prepare ahead of the career fair by familiarizing yourself with the current opportunities available at your organization. You should know the details of each role’s responsibilities and application process.
- Ask job seekers if they have peers who may be interested in your organization.
- Stand in front of your booth so there are no barriers between you and the attendees. Spend minimal time on your laptop or phone. This makes you appear more approachable and available to job seekers passing by.
- Talk to attendees from all year levels to boost the visibility of your organization and to generate potential candidates for the future.
- Your career fair booth represents your company, so create an enticing visual experience for attendees. Optimize your booth’s display with branded items, such as a tablecloth, vertical banners or backdrops, brochures and swag/giveaways.
- Ensure that your display clearly communicates what your organization does, even if your company is relatively well known, because some job seekers might not be familiar with the work you do.
- Have a sign listing the majors you are interested in hiring, even if you have roles that are open to all majors.
- Develop a clear strategy for collecting the contact information of your leads. Examples of this include digital and printed forms, a tablet or laptop available for attendees to submit their information, and a printed QR code for job seekers to scan.
- Follow up with the job seekers you met at the fair. Doing this shows that you are interested in developing a relationship with them, creating a positive image of your organization.
- Complete the career fair survey at the end of the event to help us improve future events.
