Placement File Program Update

TO: San Diego State University Alumni

FROM: Dr. James J. Tarbox, Director of Career Services

DATE: June 1, 2006

RE: Placement File Program

San Diego State University Career Services is in the process of purging all Placement Files. Effective immediately, the office will no longer process Placement File requests for inactive files.

Historically, Career Services' practice was to retire files that were inactive for 18 years. To ensure privacy of all records, Placement Files will be destroyed beginning January 3, 2007.

If you have a non-confidential Placement File, we will happily release your file to you. If you have a confidential file, we will provide to you any non-confidential materials within your file that were submitted openly on your behalf.

If you wish to have your files sent to you, we will need to receive written requests via U.S. Postal Service on or before September 15, 2006, as we will begin shredding these files in January 2007.

Additionally, if you have updated materials in your file within the past 5 years and wish to obtain this information or to have the non-confidential contents released to you for self-management, you too should contact Career Services by September 15, 2006, or your file will be destroyed as stated above.

If you have any questions, please contact Career Services at (619) 594-6851 * between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM (PST).
